DNA collection from puppies as of June 1, 2014
The procedure for DNA collection and DNA parentage research will start from 1 June.
The procedure is as follows;
For matings from 1 June, DNA collection is mandatory. If your bitch is covered before that time, this obligation does not yet apply. DNA is taken by the field employee of the Raad van Beheer (the chipper) by means of a. a special swab (a kind of cotton swab). With this swab, some buccal mucosa is removed from the puppy. That happens after chipping and is done with all puppies. The animals are not allowed to eat half an hour in advance, but they are allowed to drink water. DNA can also be taken from parent dogs present, because a DNA profile must also be known from these dogs, of course. in connection with the pedigree research. If you also want to have DNA taken from other dogs when the chipper visits, please let him know in advance.
If a DNA profile of your parent dog(s) is already known (according to ISAG 2006 DNA profile), this can be used, even if this has not been recorded at the VHL/Certagen Institute. Foreign stud dogs must have a DNA profile according to ISAG 2006 standard. If that is not the case, a vet in the dog's home country can take a swab from the buccal mucosa. First, of course, the identity of the male must be checked. The swab can be sent. A vet may also take DNA from Dutch dogs. Swabs are available from the Raad van Beheer. The breeder is responsible for supplying the DNA profiles of both parent dogs.
The owner of the dogs, from which DNA has been taken, will receive a certificate. The certificate of the puppies will be sent to the breeder. The costs per dog/puppy are approx. 30 euros. The costs must be paid together with pedigree and identification costs. If the pedigree of the puppies is not correct, no pedigrees will be issued. The certificate of the DNA profile, just like the pedigree, belongs to the dog and is therefore the property of the owner of that dog. When the dog is sold, the pedigree and certificate must therefore be transferred to the new owner.
